Accomplishment

by Robert L. Gisel

"Fall down seven times, stand up eight."
-  Japanese Proverb

Never does failure enter the picture until you give up trying. Without that factor there is no such thing as failure.

Dr. Barious says this about drive, "Geniuses have a strong desire to work hard and long. They’re willing to give all they’ve got to a project. Develop your drive by focusing on your future success, and keep going."

Drive is an important factor for success, but the person who gives you the most drive is yourself. Persistence is a powerful tool. When you employ it you can arrive, as sooner or later you will achieve success on a path you have not faltered on. Enjoyment comes with accomplishment.

Never give up trying. We hear of persons who make and lose a million dollars, only to start again and make another million.

But setbacks come from three primary factors: the accidental or unexpected circumstance, not giving fully enough to the effort, or not having enough knowledge of what you are pursuing.

The Unpredicted
Unexpected events can come from a variety of things, like the weather or shifts in political-economic climate. An accident can break the players or the pieces.

When something can't be done one way, do it another way. Just figure out how else you can make it fly and do that. Be bright enough to recognize when a change needs to be made and run with it.

Disparaging Words
Your efforts may fail to supply the demand where you have not dedicated yourself to the plan. Letting naysayers and pessimists put down your ideas can cause you to drop your drive and purpose. This is sometimes enough to stop the whole activity. The worst is being too hard on yourself.

Be alert for sources of discouragement and realize that the invalidation is misguided. Reaffirm your special talents and review your goals. Set new targets for their attainment, or put the original targets back on the table.

Educate Yourself
Find out what you need to know. This is easier than ever before as the Internet hosts a ton of free or inexpensive information. The nomenclature and key words may be as far as you have to go, for getting the words of the subject fully understood greatly opens up creativeness and inventive ideas flow forth.

Finding out what you need to know may be as simple as a few articles or as much as going back to school. Discover what you don't know and learn it.

Use Your Resources
When a task doesn't seem to ever get done by you, but is necessary to your goals, it will most usually be found to be for lack of interest. Get someone else to do it. Outsource the activity by by paying someone to do it or a trade off with swap of activities to something you do like to do.

The right amount of carry through may require more hands or additional resources. These don't have to be something you must have before you can do. OPM - Other People's Money - can manifest in many ways. It doesn't just means loans and venture capital. Sell now and deliver from the payment received, or hire now and pay when the proceeds are in. There are dozens of ways to leverage your production efforts.  Who you know might provide the right combination to get the ball rolling.

Worthwhile Activity
If you are bucking the tide do it with deliberation. Positioning your goals and purposes can have everything to do with the outcome. Selling Christmas bulbs in the summer or sand in the Sahara Desert could come up a bust.

Working out what would you have to do to make it fly you can discover a way to do even the seemingly impossible. It may require working out the appropriate timing, location, or a brilliant presentation that captures desire. A ranch house on the moon may be doable but may not be desirable to any niche, or to so few as to not be worth the effort.

Take It all the Way
When you understand the elements that might defy accomplishment pushing your works through to fruition is a fun and successful activity.

What you want is a done deal, a completed activity. Keep your vision in mind and take it all the way home.

Exceptionalism

by Robert L. Gisel

"22. INDIVIDUALISM. Do things the way you think they should be done, without fearing somebody’s disapproval." -- Dr Barrios

Life should be an adventure. It helps the story to aim at doing something extraordinary, remarkable, or even impossible. Truly that is the only way to live life.

"Everyone is exceptional in their own way."

Everyone is exceptional in their own way. In the movie The Last Starfighter the the teenager, Alan Rogan, simply was exceptional at the Starfighter arcade game, coupled with a goodness towards helping people. In Ray, about the life of Ray Charles, you learn that he was exceptional in gauging what music people would respond positively to. In John Wayne movies there was always the ability to lure out the unknown and set the bad situation to rights. He also always got the girl. It is a good thing each movie is scripted to a new story or he would have wound up a prolific bigamist.

The movies only help to illuminate our own lives and conflicts. It is Hollywood, but the examples in real life are where Hollywood gets its ideas. There is more dynamic in life though, as each person creates his own story, or gets out-created by someone who is. Your will determines the way. Concentrate on your will and the way will fall in line. This is good news because will is the easiest thing you can create.

If you take stock of your life in an objective fashion looking for what you do that is different from others, you will find a characteristic or circumstance you should pursue, or many of these. It happens sometimes that it is not immediately visible. Asking a good friend what they perceive as unique about you will stir up ideas, and will help you identify your exceptional abilities.

"A sure cure for the blues is
to put your dreams back on the table."

Then do more of what is uniquely yours. These things you really feel good about yourself will align with your dreams. Pursuing your dreams motivates and gives you energy. A sure cure for the blues is to put your dreams back on the table. Lethargy comes from having to do something because you have to and not because it is what you love doing. The better formula for success is to love life and live your love.

Always strive to do something outstanding. Whether it be a single product that is better or more than anyone expected, or a wholly unique business creation, make it into something remarkable. Steer your life into such a position. The working world's daily grind my wrack up a paycheck but not much enthusiasm for life. Setting your sights high and going for it gets the creative juices flowing and builds emotional exhilaration. You are more energetic about doing what you like to do.

It is a most interesting phenomenon that when you work at something that brings you joy, the degree of toughness dwindles to nothing. Your physical energy doesn't simply come from what you had for lunch. You create it from whole cloth. Remember the last time you fell in love? Or when you were so enthusiastic about something you worked straight through the night?

It is particularly healthy to embrace the view that nothing is impossible. The impossible is always attainable. Only insufficient carry-through makes it seem it can't be reached. Ford told his engineers to build a V-8. They told him it was impossible. He said do it anyway. They worked hard at it and said it was impossible. He said do it anyway. It was no longer impossible when they discovered how and built it.

The can't-be-done crowd will drag on you like an anchor. The naysayer that makes less of your dreams, would try to convince of the worthlessness of your plans, avoid them. When you can't avoid them let their words have no effect on you, they are only words. We know they can't do it because they won't try. Side step them and do the impossible anyway.

"Everyone natively has will power.
The difference from one to the next is
only in whether you chose to exercise it."

The genius will focus on what he wants, creates his own burning desire to attain it. Everyone natively has will power. The difference from one to the next is only in whether you chose to exercise it. Put that with something you really want to achieve and keep that dream alive, that is burning desire. That puts you at a parity with anyone else, and above everyone else that won't exercise their will.

Don't take my word for it, try it out. Name your dreams and write them down. Pick out of these what you want the most and believe you can have if "impossible" isn't an object. Pick out you really feel excited about. Then observe how much more energetic you are.

Keep that torch lit, every day, and you will arrive at the goal, sooner than you might think.

Offering A Warranty on Life

by Robert L. Gisel

"8. ENTHUSIASM. Geniuses are so excited about what they are doing, it encourages others to cooperate with them. Really believe that things will work out well. Don’t hold back." -- Dr Barrios

Success in life is never guaranteed. Life doesn't come with a warranty that says,  "Play the game of life, satisfaction guaranteed." If someone finds this somewhere let me know as I want to buy an extended warranty. Still, we see some people make billions big and others never hit the high numbers. How does one get into life's preferred customer line? Can't just anyone be a genius?

"How does one get into
life's preferred customer line?
Can't just anyone be a genius?"

Actually, anyone can. In Hollywood there are the wannabees and then there are the A-listers who made it. There are winners of the race and the almost rans. Some business ideas luck into viral popularity making the principals fast millionaires and others never get off the ground. Are they each just a better person than the rest? Is Nicholas Cage more genius than you? (It wasn't his fault that he is in financial ruin, it was bad direction from his financial manager.) The truth is, though, no one has a corner on the game of life to the exclusion of others, and anyone can arrive at the head of the line. Will is the way.

Granted, any endeavor is a learnable skill and one must have sufficient knowledge or insight to create a winning combination. Assuming that one is studied in his craft or willing to crack the books to be skillful, there is still a factor critical to placing second or taking the gold.

Here's the inside tip. The fabric of the universe forms an ace in the hole for anyone who would set their desires into motion. This oft overlooked factor, when one plays his cards right, can draw the appearance of Lady Luck. It is just an apparency, but nevertheless the difference between fool's gold and a rich strike is a doable stance that is not exclusively held by a chosen few. But how does one go from wish to fulfillment?

It is not wishful thinking. The glee of careless thrust after hope has left many a man flat broke as surely as one can so easily lose it all on a single wager at the gaming tables. There is a false confidence that finds one having played the fool. There is also the genuine article that takes the courage of conviction with entuberance. Between the false and the real is the difference between success and failure. There is an attitude one must practice wherein lies the key.

The fabric of the universe is an infinite quantity while not being a something at the same time. It is the life force that extends beyond the physical bounds. It is what delivers up our decisive commands. It functions for us out of love and not out of hate, and any negative begets the same.  Things happen from a state of enthusiasm where there will be no motion from a state of apathy. If you don't feel enthusiastic find something to be enthusiastic about. You can always play enthusiastic, get the idea of it and carry the air of excitement, until you genuinely are. Genuine enthusiasm is high enough emotionally to trump your cards. It is the ace in the hole, the joker that rounds out the hand.

"Genuine enthusiasm is high enough emotionally
to trump your cards."

It is a known datum that when one makes a decision and goes into doingness on that plan the motion of the physical universe aligns. Unexpected help can materialize. Needed resources now become available and beneficial circumstances appear. This does not happen when you hold yourself back, so go forth freely and with confidence.

Decide and do. Doing this from a confidently calm state the result is powerful. No doubts are permitted. Also, snarling anger may strike a blow but it won't be a winning combination in the long view. Be at peace now and concentrate on molding the future, but never dwell on the past. Push away thoughts of animosity and fill these instead with trust and good will. "Should have dones" or fault finding equally are anchors that stay any forward thrust; don't do it. Do the plan, effusively pursue your goals, and be a gracious host to success.

In this way you can underwrite your own warranty on life.

Live With Desire

by Robert L. Gisel

OPTIMISM. Geniuses never doubt they will succeed.
Deliberately focus your mind on something good coming up.
Dr. Barrios

A strong desire is the root necessity to get where you want. Wishful thinking falls short always. It takes the focus of one's will towards that which one most desires to arrive at the coveted prize.

You could stand and look at fancy cars and wealthy homes and wish you had these but this does not get for yourself valued things. Even worse you could envy the person who has obtained things. Doubting that you could ever arrive at a high goal is the best assurance you will not arrive.

The adage of the idle mind as the devil's playground is truer than you might think. If your mind turns at every corner you will end up in the slums when you were headed out for Beverly Hills. Things worth having are worth the effort to achievement.

"Things worth having
are worth the effort to achievement."

The easiest effort to exert is one's will. So focus plays a important part in manifesting your genius. Something good coming up may be something known to be happening, like an event or presentation or perhaps a holiday. When you put out the desire of achievement your mind will interface with the universe and in this light miracles have been known to happen. The more focus on the will to do the stronger the desire of achievement. It is not hard to focus the will and is a capability in anyone. It you are not used to doing this it only takes some practice.

As the Olympic relay of the the torch to light the fire in the cauldron that signals the beginning of the games you can image carrying a torch as a reminder to keep your desires alive. Just put it on the mantle at night or you'll never get any sleep "doing" your project all through the night. Practice at keeping your desire ceaselessly strong will override any self doubts and distracting negative thoughts. The practice includes pushing any contrary thoughts out of play replacing them with the to will to succeed. When you have this the physical universe will be seen to align and provide support in some most unexpected ways.

Let me know when you get there, as you will, if you do this well.

Take a Chance?

by Robert L. Gisel

"9. WILLINGNESS TO TAKE CHANCES. Overcome your fear of failure. You won’t be afraid to take chances once you realize you can learn from your mistakes." - Dr. Alfred Barrious Self-Programmed Control Center of Los Angeles

Is it okay to breakout from a routine life on a gamble that something new and dear to one's heart is worth going for? Arising from this is the question of responsibility lest one give up all visible means of support and end up in bankruptcy or headed for living on the street. Yet being a genius requires that one take chances.

Fear blinds willingness.
Giving importance to considerations that you have failed at something will barrier your own reach. Drop it. Worse yet, giving credence to someone else's nay saying will balk your plans. Let it go. If you failed to persist you failed. You don't have to make that mistake again.

Leveraging extends your means.
Knowing that you have or can access wherewithal for attainment is a monitoring factor. Any new activity will run some distance in the red. The start up time will vary greatly from on activity to another. Leveraging can be enlisting help or funds. Having confidence in your abilities will allow you to approach others and sell yourself and your idea for resources that will extend the reach of your activity.

The unforeseen will always require adjustments along the way.
Educating yourself eliminates a lot of trial and error. Even still ones best prediction can run amuck with unforeseen. Be of a mind to solve problems and not be stymied by them. You have to be willing to shift gears and change the program. When a program doesn't run quickly find out why and tweek it. You may have to examine altogether different alternative approaches.

To do what will is likely to be more successful requires a new idea of brilliance.
The stroke or brilliance from this may come as simply as researching the area of the problem in Wikipedia. Looking up the related words in a dictionary to get a conceptual understand of each is bound to brighten one up. A different mode of marketing or means of manufacturing will be apparent when you search the available opportunities. New materials, new means, whatever it is, search and you will find a solution. When the light turns on roll with it.

Learn from your mistakes.
If something hasn't worked ask why and make a record of that in a journal or research papers. If you had to do it again what would have eased it into fruition.

Learn from others mistakes.
When someone else can't make an activity work get an understanding from this. Following bad or over-hyped advices can find oneself falling short of the promised expectations. Altering or failing to apply a proven program sets one up for failed results but where the heralded path has not been a success don't follow it over the ledge.

Being different, unique or exceptional goes with the territory.
Why not be the one to come out with a completely new idea or set a new record. No one monopolizes that capability of the mind, that life force that pervades the universe and provides innovation and accomplishment.

Will you make it?
Be an achiever and you will. Have or develop and practice the attitude that you can. All is possible to the person who believes so.

Persistence begets arrival.
When you give up trying you guarantee you won't arrive. One person pursuing a mine dig stopped 3 feet from a gold vein while the next person to take over the claim found one of the greatest gold finds ever. Don't stop short because of weak conviction in what you know to be true.

Timing can make all the difference.
Coffee shops was a time who has come for Starbucks. The predominance of street coffee vendors indicated the location of the Northwest was a market ready to be tapped. Finding other areas ready for such an idea allowed Starbucks to expand all over world one shop at a time. Timing is filling a vacuum that exists now or somewhere. Exercise your ability to spot untapped areas by, just for fun, contemplating this and noting your finds in your notebook.

Assume willingness.
This is an attitude or frame of mind you gain by assumption. Assume that you have this quality. Disagree with failure. Disagree with anyone who tries to advise you to be less, do less, or have less. If you don't take chances, if you limit yourself to the normal rather than the exceptional. Step out and be a genuis.

Do you think you have something it is time to go for? Why is that so? Is it an opportunity whose time has come? I'd like to hear from you about you thoughts on this.

Support Wikipedia

by Robert L. Gisel

Following up on a special message from the Founder of Wikipedia he asked what does Wikipedia mean to me. A poignant question that.

What is it? How does it work? What is it made of? Who is he? How many times have I had find out. I can always learn it at Wikipedia. Simple, to the point, I get what I need to know quickly.

I'm very willing to support Wikipedia as Wikipedia has very willingly supported me. Creative breakthroughs of magnitude have come to me in flashes of inspiration while using Wikipedia, so I can't praise it enough.

When you clear the meaning of words, get an understanding of the nomenclature, genius swells. Quite factually this fundamental learning releases intelligence.

Clearing up words related to Buckminister Fuller's Geodesic Dome a bright idea came to me and I found myself inventing a take off from Fuller's technology with a revolutionary architectural concept.

Doing an R&D on an electric vehicle invention I was following up the Wikipedia discourse and links regarding a mineral for an unique battery application something flashed on a technical parameter. I found myself on a wholly new R&D for another invention that just came to me, just reading Wikipedia. Now I am inventing a revolutionary new engine.

By the way, Wiktionary saved me a great deal of befuddlement when they posted the definition of Sarah Palin's "refudiate". I'm so glad we got that straight.

Since is Wikipedia is free and without advertising, and it is so valuable a source of knowledge, I gladly donate to it. Won't you?

Working for Your Own Dreams

by Robert L. Gisel

The whole essence of the 24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common is that when you bring out the best in yourself you can step out from mundane expectancies of life and live the adventures of your dreams. How well you do that has everything to do with how well you get your ducks in a row to meet the challenge.

In Sustainable Life Vs Enjoyable Sustenance I advise against full out abandonment of an income source into a dearth of no income or support. The other side of that is that you could land in Philadelphia with nothing but a few coins in your pocket and a loaf of bread under each arm and end up a renown author and philosopher. Benjamin Franklin did it, but not without visions of enterprise already jelling in the think tank.

A brilliant idea merits a brilliant plan of execution and positioning. It is often born out in your first flash of genius on the subject, where the creation first incubates. When you start to roll out an idea don't stop because the sun goes down or the clock says it is time for bed. Take it as far you can and document it. Write it, draw it, outline it even in vignette, place it in the physical universe where doesn't get lost because you later forget it in whole or in part.

For an invention you would want to encapsulate the idea from the need that it fulfills, and for whom, and even what would you call it that elicits a creative image of the thing. Consider how it would be built and marketed or the kind of expert that could be brought in to handle those aspects. You may only need to consider its possibilities, that it can be done.

You can always outsource or insource the details the way Henry Ford did. He didn't know how to build a V-6 engine, he only envisioned that it could be done to advantage, then demanded his staff experts do it until after many times of failure and repeated demand it was done. The dream was the most valuable piece of the engine.

A new business idea may be simply filling a vacuum in an absent market where the need and demand by lots of people provides a huge potential. Starbucks fulfilled coffee drinkers desire for specialty coffee in a fast-food format and then reached out with that to its market potential around the world.

Plan It Out

From initial thought to realization the key is to think it through.

The incredible advantage we have today is you can Google anything. You can rapidly learn what you need to know. Aside from that there are libraries, schools, texts, colleges and people more that willing to help you understand an area that fits any piece of the puzzle. These are the details of R&D, though. Before that you have to plan out where the idea is headed.

You can list the steps forward one to the next, say, each step of establishment of a facility to deliver a popular fast-food hamburger that could be duplicated in many locations, eg, MacDonald's. It might be more appropriate step if backwards from the final result, as in Edison's dream of electric lighting in every household.

Go back over it and think it through from different angles. For instance, there is the financial considerations. What will it cost, what could it be sold for, how does that compare with similar things, is there even anything like this extant, and if so, how does this differ. To pull it off can it be done on a shoestring, leveraging monies and resources as you make your way. How much development or establishment will it take? Will it require financing? If that, who would have an interest in backing your project?

It is your bright idea, you are the Granddaddy of it, get familiar with all its facets that you can answer questions on any of it or know what expertise could work it out. You only have to believe it is possible, even if all the mechanics are not yet worked out.

Breaking Out

At some point you will have the confidence of your particular grand scheme. You are source, and none know a dream or have a better feel for it than its dreamer. That is infinitely valuable, yet there is another ace in the hole.

When you have assured belief in something and take action towards it all manner of solutions, help and practical assistance will materialize. Doing nothing is as dormant as a dead log. When you set out and do, resources will appear. That is just the way it works. The key is do something, take any action, however small, towards the dream and the universe will align to help you achieve the dream.

Your decision accompanied with your doingness, fueled by your desired will part part the waters in sometimes the most uncanny ways. Remember that formula: decision, doingness and desire.

With all that said, you could well find yourself in a position to quit your job, cast all abandon to the wind and launch your ship into the unknown. Be unshakable in your resolve and practical in your ability without kowtowing to the naysayers, and then why not go where no man has gone.

Do it for the love of life.

Sustainable Life Vs Enjoyable Sustenance

by Robert L. Gisel

“vital (vit'l) adj.

1.Of or characteristic of life: vital processes.

2. Necessary to the continuance of life; life sustaining: vital functions...”

Having money, a regular and predictable income of, is necessary and even vital to one's life. That goes without saying, until it comes to leaping off a regular job into a new activity.

For the establishing entrepreneur, the self employed, the artist, the innovator, this may seem unfortunate or inopportune. Even the most worthy of non-profit organizations require an an input to its finances and more so to its start-up phase. Whether it begins with one's own stash of funds, pay-as-you-go cash flow funding, OPM (other people's money), a line of credit, venture capital, even charity or good will there will will be money involved.

It has been proposed on several blog sites that working at a “day job” just for money and particularly where this does not fulfill one's dreams and desires for happiness is a dead-end road. Yet without the vital regular income to keep putting food on the table one cannot live at all. Witness the homeless bum with his hand out.

Money is an energy and energy is required for any motion or activity. Whether it comes in Dollars, Pounds, Yen, gold, uranium or a carton of eggs there has to be an exchangeable value. This is what motors the world. That's our universe.

Unlimited excesses and huge abundances of capital supposes far more funds than could be consumed in the next great project. Unless you have already produced such or inherited it you are still left with the searing question: how much money do you have to have in order to acquire a world of freedom and joy where having enough money is no longer even a passing consideration?

The answer to this varies condiderably as each person's desires and circumstances are individual. Once a hypotheses of mine that there could be a set formula for funding requirements for an initial business activity, I was expecting a neat and handy service for business consulting. But the period in the red is different for each business. Not accounting for enough time in the red can be the death toll of a new activity. Just witness this factor in the high rate of new business failures.

So if you don't want to be a slave to an employment only tolerated lest you go homeless or starve, what do you do?

Be a deaf, dumb, blind kid that sure plays a mean pinball.

I joke, but seriously, it has truth to it: you have to be a wizard at something. In some way you have to create a phenomenal proposition.

You don't have to a demi-god but you do have to propose something exceptional. If not, you can learn and learn well enough to set your something apart from other somethings. Short of that you can always piggy-back onto the genius of others and find a unique or overlooked zone to franchise another's already created wealth builder.

Find the uniqueness of what you love to do. What makes it different? What lights your bells and makes you feel alive? What is all-out fun for you? That you should contemplate how to do for a living, and program out the steps to get there. The simpler and more direct the approach the better.

If it is a dream worth having it is a dream worth going for for all it is worth.

Time versus money.

Could you live on $10,000? $10,000 a year? Only if you can live on $833 a month.

It is said that you should have enough in reserves to cover your expenses for 6 months in case you lose your job. Six months might not be enough. Where it takes longer to get a job or the income you are expecting to make takes longer you'll need more reserves. Still, ruthlessly taking a percent off the top of every paycheck and setting aside to build such reserves, well aside where you are not tempted to spend it, is a good plan. Create a cushion for your future.

Bills will come in, rent needs to be paid and you must have money for food and the routine costs of living, weekly or monthly. You can spend less, but only to a point. Nice-to-have expenses can be foregone but not essentials. Sustainable life happens when you have adequately more income than the monies that must go out.

There are ways to establish a side income or residuals that do come in timely enough to keep the monthly expenses covered. Then following ones dreams is not only feasible but lends happiness in the doing. Working for yourself at what you love is very fulfilling. Keep plotting at that until you achieve success.

Do that well and you will win the hundred yards. But don't give up your "day job" until there's sufficient money to sustain yourself while the main game catches up. Living on the street might be adventurous, but it isn't fun.

How To Proximate Genius Thought

by Robert L. Gisel

The mechanical way to mental genius is said the to be the act of entrainment (synchronization). The big question is, which comes first, the chicken or the egg.

One definition in Wikipedia is thus: Brainwave entrainment, the practice of entraining one's brainwaves to a desired frequency.

Scientific research on this by Dutchman Christian Huygens in the 17th century is now called "brainwave entrainment", "whole brain synchronisation", "Psychonautics", meditation and so on and so forth. Today's focus on this sector is through, or as, Neurology. Herein enters the chicken or the egg question. Mental function, or brainwaves; which is cause?

The Neurology line labels the wavelengths immolating from brain function as Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta as determined by their respective hertz bands. The idea, then, is to induce the wavelength and voila! you get the genius thought of Theta waves. Enter Huey Louis singing "I want a new drug...".

You can crash a computer's functioning by many clicks on the same button command, but it takes an intelligent person to do this, or stupid person as the case may be. The structure of the the computer only responds to the live command given it in the outset by a living being.

Mental function is life force. The elan vital, the soul, the spirit, free thought, call it what you will. It's you, the being, that which is alive.

More important it is you, the energy production unit. Herein lies the key.

Not much energy comes out of a body that is tired and hungry. But then, you are not your body. You are an independent spiritual being. If you have become dependent on the body, think you are the body, these may obfuscate the issue. That's okay, it's politically correct -- politicians do this all the time (joke).

Energy production requires only a base holding two poles in proximity and a difference of potential, whereby you can connect the poles and a an energy flow occurs. That you, the energy production unit, can do this is a different view.

The proof is empirical in a simple test you can perform anytime. Position yourself in front of an object about one foot away from your eyes. Focus on a dot on the object. Get the idea of connecting to the object, from where you are viewing to the object, like a continuous rod. Do this until you sort of "feel" the connection. Then drop it. Just get the idea there is no connection. Then put it back, the energy beam that connects to the object. Drop it, put it back, keep that up, back and forth. You'll find this starts to alternate faster. Go with it. After some bit of this you will experience a buildup of energy. You will feel an energetic state of being. The environment will glitter alive with energy. You have just created, out of nowhere, alternating energy.

If one were to measure the hertz of the brain waves at this point one should find the finer wavelengths associated with genius thinking.

It wasn't your brain connected to the object. That's you, and that's an actual energy beam that you created, essentially out of thought. The best discourse of this is in a book Scientology 8-80 by L. Ron Hubbard where he discusses theta and energy production. This is the object of the elusive and failed "perpetual motion machine" searches. We didn't come from matter. Matter and energy came from us. Thus came the chicken and the egg.

Try the exercise above. Then let me know what your experience is with this.

Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men

by Robert L. Gisel

Those spiritual words, Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men, oft repeated characterize virtues we could use a lot more of around the globe.

It takes an abundance of trust and high ability to grant beingness to others, to always embrace the benevolence, generosity and greatness to rise above baser emotions that wear on one and taunt like response.

When you would seem to be egged into a needless confrontation you would be advised to have no fear, look it in the eye, take a deep breath, count to 10, or whatever works for you to not bite when bitten. Yet in the world there are insane enemies sometimes about that need to be rendered ineffective to harm. These are too often themselves the unrevealed culprits the politicos and their mad dog press try to foist off on us.

The men of goodwill, those who pursue life honestly and ethically comprise 80% or more of the entire populace. This is who keeps life tenable and the life force moving forward. The Holiday spirit reaffirms this. The Hope is it will last throughout the year.

May you embrace the causes of Peace and Goodwill and be of such import yourself reaping an abundant and prosperous New Year.

How About a Legacy?

by Robert L, Gisel

The post by Chris Guillebeau of Creating a Legacy Project strikes a familiar chord. I said:

"Hi Chris,
It's interesting to me I had just posted on my ThinkTankMan.blogspot.com about creating Drive and it came out as, first you need to clarify your goals. This idea of a Legacy Project is a good way of putting it. Sometimes I think this morbid thought maybe I'm spinning my wheels only to have my most genius ideas realized after I've passed on. An army of remarkable followers is a good community to have in the here and now. I mean you wouldn't want to have an empty room at your wake!
All kidding aside, when you do something decide on a path and leap into the fray it always amazes me when I see how the physical universe starts to toe the line. Not that there aren't bumps and obstacles but the experience of having materialized something, a legacy, is a special creation.
I set up some larger legacy projects which take more than a few days to complete (I say tongue in cheek), but complete they do, a couple major plans completed (blogs, screenplays) and these others (Novel, EV Retrofit) coming along one of these days. I think my 'Take Hill 10' might be facilitated with more baby steps, like, 'Gather up the available ammo'.
Robt.

WhoWouldWrite.blogspot.com (one of my legacies)"

The idea of a Legacy Plan is really intriguing. It puts out there the long view. It encompasses the idea that one is cause over the world well beyond oneself. So true, and so worth contemplating.

How to Create Drive.

by Robert L. Gisel

(This blog is dedicated to the self development of qualities of genius.)

"1. DRIVE. Geniuses have a strong desire to work hard and long. They’re willing to give all they’ve got to a project. Develop your drive by focusing on your future success, and keep going." Dr. Barios

There is no better time than now to be an entrepreneur for one who is not allergic to work. With business layoffs of thousands and tens of thousands at a time making the news with increasing frequency more security is afforded to one who would follow his dreams in self employment.

Working ambitiously for today's corporate executives more often than not comes with the understanding that one will give his all, which usually includes many extra hours on evenings and weekends. When you look at it though, if you find yourself putting in 60-80 hours a week for your corporate boss you could put in the same amount of time working for your self with your own business with the prospect of much greater rewards.

This is not for one who is not a self-starter, has difficulty getting motivated or is simply lazy. At the same time, actively pursuing activities dear to oneself overcomes the lack of motivation that can come with enforcement to someone else's dreams. Following one's own goals creates a juggernaut of beneficial energy.

The reason that this vibrancy emerges from being on and working with one's purpose lines is as simple as how energy is produced within the laws of physics. A base that holds apart two poles, in proximity, with a difference of potential produces energy. The plus of operating from the stable datum of one's goal versus the unknowns of the problems to overcome in creation makes for endless energy creation.

A person without goals is hard to get to do anything for very long, but just as one can be enthused by a well done inspirational movie, creating along the lines that light one's bells endows a lot of life. Blunted reach or failed accomplisment, on the other hand can make one feel exhausted. Still the solution is to reafirme your goals. Start orienting your drive to that which gives you hope with several simple steps.

1) Ask yourself what do you really desire most in life?

2) What really lights your bells, what do you get excited about?

3 )Do your life activities align with this purpose?

4) What do you need to do to get more in swing with your purposes?

5) Get started doing that, even if only one small first step towards the goal.

Once you have established yourself in the right direction, setting tasks and pushing these through to a done comes more naturally. Achievement then begets happiness and the rehabilitation of life force aids success.

What Does It Take To Be Focused?

by Robert L. Gisel

"3. DEVOTION TO GOALS. Geniuses know what they want and go after it. Get control of your life and schedule. Have something specific to accomplish each day."

To be focused one first have to have goals, long term, sweeping and star-high. The lessor activities in one's life should align with that.

Determining what your dreams are you only have to look at what you desire most to accomplish. From that you can decide what path will take you there, and thence the steps you need to take. This is what dictates sequential action, tells you the things you need to accomplish daily.

Write these down where you can refer back to these points and reaffirm your direction when needed. A useful tool is to keep a journal, blank but lined pages, that can always be to hand, not hidden away in a drawer or filing cabinet. Investing a few bucks in an inexpensive leather bound journal provides a nice record you'll always want to have handy. This does much to put in the needed organization.

Persistence to a goal requires keeping one's eye on the mountain one has to climb. A myriad of day by day actions with the goal in mind is what gets one there. Write down daily tasks to accomplish. Then be diligent and self disciplined in getting done the things you have listed. Determine how much time you will take and compartment your schedule accordingly.

Will power can never be underrated. Knowing where you're headed overall is necessary to focus.

Be in Control, Take Charge

by Robert L. Gisel

"3. DEVOTION TO GOALS. Geniuses know what they want and go after it. Get control of your life and schedule. Have something specific to accomplish each day." Dr.Barrios

It is a recurring theme in comments from others on the subject of genius, this sort of envy, of the ingenuity and brilliance of the Edison or the Einstein. The truth is, it is in you, should you choose to bring it out.

A correspondent expressed a difficulty she was having, something I've observed occasionally in myself and others, getting a mind to work at all, what with all the life problems and situations one has to handle or resolve. This is something more basic than having goals and being in control of your life and schedule. This is about being in control of your mind and decisive factors.

First off, one can be distracted by having a lot of things going on at once, which is okay, but keeping and juggling so many things in one's head at the same time becomes counter-productive. Sure, that is the purpose of the mind, but you won't control anything if you can't control one thing. To control one thing you have to focus on it. Even if it's only to take hold of something out of the corner of your eye, it's a focus and thus controlling something.

Here is a short set of actions that cures the dispersal. To do be able to do these you must disappear from all distractions for about 20-30 minutes; go somewhere you won't be interrupted.

1. Make a list of all the actions in your life (or work, separately, unless they are the same) that are open actions to do.
2. Make another list of anything in your life you do not feel in control of.
3. Another list, what do you feel in control of.

You should have experienced some relief at the point, a plateau by itself. Now you can do this short set of actions:

4. Go back to the first list and highlight realistically what MUST be done as opposed to what is just nice or desirable to do.
5. Pick one of those that can be done now (not something unreal, like contact the Court Clerk at 2 AM).
6. Do it. If it appears it has necessary sequential sub-actions like a, b, c, d, do a.

After this you can start to complete actions on the rest of the first list, one by one get some things done and cross them off. At some point you can re-write the first list and it will be more real and increasingly pertinent.

Get with me after you have done the steps 1-3 minimally, or preferably after step 6. Also get with me if it this bogs down for any reason, tell me what you are experiencing and I'll address that with you. This shouldn't be the case, unless some fiasco happens like you get arrested for loitering while doing 1-3. A fiasco has a different handling.

If you can't get started on any of this, if it's all too bad, select someone to take you out back and shoot you (just kidding). Seriously, your ability to do or accomplish anything you desire is your most valuable asset. Even if you don't believe that still take the baby steps 1-6, then write to me.

No one is devoid of the 24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common. Some IQ geniuses have said they don't have them, which is basically poppycock, being a put down of oneself. You innately have them. If only working on one trait at a time you can enhance or enrich these traits in yourself and be the next Edison, if you so desire.

Jobless Not Hopeless

by Robert L. Gisel

On my other blog I wrote about the economics and mechanics in earning income as an entrepreneur. As it occurs to me this has a lot to do with a number of the points of a genius it was appropriate to re-publish it here.

Being a writer means working and making a living without being somebody's employee, in my mind. Being not an employee but genuinely an entrepreneur. This web site of Barbara Winter lends support to the idea.

At one trying period of my life I went off purpose taking up a state government job. This for sure took no great creativity but the warranty of a regular paycheck versus the insecure returns of self-employment income was cozy, like an electric blanket in a bitter cold night.

Sooner or later the secure steady job will reach the limits of tolerability for the entrepreneurial minded.

If you have an avenue towards the attainment of income, exchange of products for funds that does, or will, realize subsidence it can be as creatively variable as people are different. There are commonly several mileposts you will have to accomplish to be "joyfully jobless" as Barbara flaunts above.

1) Create The Bright Idea. The new idea creates from thin air. Somewhere I heard someone say inspiration only comes around just so often you have to take advantage of it when it comes along. Not true. Decide to think of something new and do it.

I wanted to make a friend of mine laugh this morning. She is a Doctor of Dermatology so the idea was simply, how could I un-define Dermatology. At first hadn't a clue how to make a play on that term. With help from the dictionary I got inspired:

Dermatology is the field making kishke (from derma: a wrapped beef dish stuff with a flour mixture). It is the reverse of "Where's the beef?" that being epitomized by Beef Wellington.

It's strange I don't see that in her office...

There was another example of this where I was explaining to a friend how to go about the game of creating and licensing patents. Just for example, I said, what if you wanted to come up with a better mouse trap. On the spot, out of the blue, I invented one. I elaborated a box cage that triggers a guillotine trap door when the mouse approaches the cheese inside the box. Voila! A better mouse trap.

From nothing to something is the province of the artist: the new idea from thin air, the written word on a blank page, the painting on a empty canvass. All starts with a decision and that is easy. Just decide I am going to...

2) Physical Demonstration Aids Imagination. Sometimes when the ideas just won't gel into a variation what you're trying modify or originate it can help immensely to literally put it out there in front of you. Rather than molding it in your head put it in the physical universe using scraps of things from your desk drawer to shape a demonstrative model.

In the example above you could fold a piece of paper into a rectangular box. On the floor of the box fulcrum a strip of cardboard over a pen cap. Wrap a stack of credit cards with a piece of tape and slip it through a slot in the top of the box to form a trap door. Unwrap a paperclip to create a rod coming from the entrance side of the end of the ramp and upwards through the top of the box. Play around with a lip and a hook configuration on the trap door that holds it up in the open position until triggered, at which point it drops into place. Lay a piece of "cheese" at the far end of the ramp and await the mouse.

Demonstrating something in this fashion with bits and pieces of anything is a terrific aid to invention.

3) Checklist the Practicality of the Bright Idea. Make sure it withstands the tests of feasibility: it has to be something that fulfills a real need in a practical and usable fashion. This is simply done by considering it all the different ways that a consumer would regard it. Write these ways down for quick reference or as checklist.

In one's own area you have probably been thinking in this light automatically. It is your forte'. Where you don't quite visualize it, here again you give this beingness by actual doingness. Form the considering points into a checklist.

How can I think differently about this? What is a different point of view? Is this a brand new idea or does it improve upon an idea? Who would buy it? Why would someone want this? Is there anything else like it on the market? These are just a few of the questions that might be on your checklist.

4) An Economically Feasible Product Makes Good. The product should be able to be sold for 3 times what it costs to buy/make/deliver the goods. Whatever that price comes out to be has to be a value that a public will buy. The lower priced burger at McDonald's is offset by quantity, while the higher priced burger at Applebee's sells for more as it has a quality that people want and will pay more for.

A friend mine does quite well building and installing, at a much higher price, the same cabinetry middle America might buy for their homes as he deals exclusively with wealthy publics who are willing to pay more for the same product. Consideration and market has everything to do with the exchange.

With a product like writing it is your time that is valuable. Working all year on a product for $20,000 or one month for one that pays $10,000 and leaves 11 months open for more products makes it easy to see: you can only spend so much of your time at something.

5) A Lot at Bargain Prices Versus Little at a Premium. Writing, sculpting or painting alike face the same quality versus quantity issue. You should have both. The larger ticket item when sold pays a lot of bills accumulated but a steady flow of smaller introductory items keeps bread and butter on the table daily.

The biggest reason for both, why this is essential, has to do with new public versus the established clientele. You must always, always, always develop new publics to keep up an expanding client base.

6) 2% Inspiration and 98% Perspiration. This delineation of genius by Edison speaks sooth.

You could potentially sell your ideas and never have to be involved in the manufacturing or marketing. You can license patents and the purchasing company takes care of all the implementation and can get a flat fee or may negotiate a percentage return. Whatever it is it is less than the return if you yourself manufactured the invention and put it on the market as did Edison.

Even selling the idea it takes some hard work to package a bright idea that it can be sold. It may only be typing it up, drawing it out, naming it, prototype making, testing and surveying. Then you have to sell it to someone or a board of someones and may have to defend it from all manner of ploys to get without buying.

7) Administration is Too Often Foreign to the Artist. A number of my friends are the most outstandingly creative in the field but when it comes to the practical skills of administration and marketing the product they flop miserably. This is particularly true in art where the aesthetic mind stands by itself and produces exceptional product.

Where you have experienced this of yourself the answer is to get trained and educated in the skill areas lacking or hire a manager or outsource the activity.

8) Give Due Consideration to Operating in the Red Long Enough to Succeed. How much capital you will actually need to start a new activity or how much reserves will keep you funded while the returns build enough to put you in the black is more often than not underestimated. It is a different amount for each activity.

It is best to have some form of regular proceeds, monthly income or royalties while establishment occurs.

9) All Your Eggs One Basket Can Lead to a Nasty Surprise. When the fox breaks into the chicken coop if all the eggs are in one basket the loss may be total. When there are numbers of baskets he isn't likely to get into all of of them. Especially if there is more than one chicken coop.

It is a wise idea to have more than one source of income. While this applies to anyone it is extremely viable for the self employed. It might be large white eggs, brown eggs and turkey eggs, each having its own market share. It might better be from different areas altogether like eggs, goat's milk, cheese, Christmas trees and garden boulders.

10) Be Consistent. Whatever it is you do for income it has to be regularly done. One time deals tend to be just that: a big spurt of income, then a draught. At some point success will roll over into floods of income you couldn't stop if you wanted to, but until that time comes a regular output of creation is necessary.

These are from within the realm of my experiences and observations. I welcome other viewpoints and exploration of other ideas. Leave your comments of ideas you have about this.

Why Isn't Potential Enough?

by Robert L. Gisel

Plenty of potential surely helps but what really counts is whether you go the distance. The post from Chris Guillebeau of The Art of Non-Conformity strikes a note as I have seen this in other artists as well. The necessity to realize out of potential is not limited to artists but seems to be more pronounced in that realm as therein lies the most creation from nothing.

A high capacity battery is great but if you never run the engine who cares. You have to make the trip, put in the time and exert the effort to carry through to a fully realized product.

Chris's hits a very hot button for artists provoking the question what to do about it. I couldn't resist putting in my 2 cents and am reprinting these here as I liked what I had to say and what to expound on it. My comments:

Tips for the Dip:

Be At Peace With the Ebb Tide

My all time success action at such moments in the illusion of failure is to go with the calm that occurs at the turning of the tide. After the incoming fury and wrath of the incoming tide when it looks like all is spent for naught and now the tide will recede the sea goes very calm. That's when I observe the calmness, tune in to the creative forces of the universe and set about a new onslaught. It's only failure if you fail to persist.

Have the Last Supper.

You have to follow the ebb tide calm with the Last Supper, so to speak. When it appears defeat has beset me or the game is lost I literally go fix myself a special meal in my kitchen or get something I really like at a restaurant and call it the "Last Supper". This is metaphorical for meaning it appears I just lost the title but the eye of the tiger will see it through to win anew. Always at this time a bright idea or brilliant new phase plan emerges and I know something remarkable and great is just around the corner.

Difference of Potential Creates Energy.

When you think about it no energy is created in the absence of a difference in potential; without that there is no flow. What has more difference of potential than the work of an artist creating something from a blank page, an empty canvass or a void of space.

How Do I know It's Genuinely Good?

What makes it good or not is 1) only that it be different and 2) the discipline in the application of craftsmanship.

1) If you can say what hasn't been said or express a new view of it like a clever metaphor it will stimulate thought in others, you can be assured. Be yourself and express what comes from your heart and that will take you the longest way.

2) A casual observer may say he likes it but the artist, who knows his craft well enough from study and practice will apply his skills with the finesse that entices the involvement and imagination of the intended public, knowing fully well what rules or methodology made it likable.

The smug pleasure from accomplishing my first screenplay was that only I did it; the screenplay itself is a far cry from acceptable. Same of the second screenplay first rendering on paper. By the ninth re-write following the advices of an excellent mentor it transformed to the realm of top notch. Now doing it right comes naturally.

Know what you have that is unique. Study up. Take time to improve your skills. Then success will follow your persistence.

Take a Walk to The Top of the Mount

When all else fails here is another metaphor. In the circumstance where it appears my work is crap after all, that I have really messed it all up, spun my wheels to go nowhere and may well be defeated and left for dead on the battlefield this calls for a walk to the top of the mount to come back with the holy tables. You have to take some time out and review where you stand and be honest with yourself. Get a new view from the highest point of the journey. This is best done by reviewing your goals and most heartfelt desires candidly and reaffirm these or adjust them as needed.

A lost battle only means that you still have to confront the war.

Imagination IS Genius

by Robert L. Gisel

I have come across an interesting blog post that set me thinking about an interesting aspect of genius as it pertains to art and artists. In this post of Patricia's Wisdom the point is the art and artists making sand sculptures.

No small feat I must say first of all. The one piece she took a picture of, 3 - 4 foot bear, is actually quite well done as a piece of art in it's proportions and detail. Considering the media making something of this size at all is remarkable let alone one that is very good sculpture.

Imagination, in all that I illustrated in my last post, IS genius even if observed manifested for only 3 hours duration of the production of an art piece. The aesthetic mind seems to draw on all of the 24 qualities though, not just imagination. It just struck me how this relates to art seeing Patricia's post and is what prompted me to comment:

"There is a bit of genius in every work of art, so the focus and dedication for several hours as you pointed out actually strikes me as a genius quality, is what stood out when I read your blog post."

Go check out her post and of course the bear picture here, and let me know what you think of it.

Quality Of A Genius: Imagination

by Robert L. Gisel

While it is the last of the 24 qualities that geniuses have in common imagination is very likely the most sought out characteristic and perhaps the most key one. Without it all the bright ideas leading to the renown inventions, even the not so well known ones, would never have happened. This also can be easily developed by any individual.

This is how this quality of a genius is characterized by Dr. Barios:

"24. IMAGINATION. Geniuses know how to think in new combinations, see things from a different perspective, than anyone else. Unclutter your mental environment to develop this type of imagination. Give yourself time each day to daydream, to fantasize, to drift into a dreamy inner life the way you did as a child."

While inspiration is a factor of imagination observation is a keynote of imagination. If you only make an effort to observe things and question them imagining new possibilities will result. Thomas Jefferson did this religiously looking out at the environment anywhere he went and constantly taking notes of what he saw. He regularly questioned whether there was a better way to do something. One result of this was his famous house he called Monticello which itself was a new direction in architecture but also contained some innovations he dreamed up. The dumbwaiter was an idea he had for bring wine up from the wine cellar and he devised an underground conveyor to transport honey pots to a dumping tank, to mention just a couple.

When Edison embarked on a new invention he started with the premise something might be able to be done then he started reading everything he could on the subject. He'd regularly go through scientific papers and even go see the works of scientists that were experimenting around the subject. Then he ran numerous tests to see results from many different materials and combinations. For this he kept shelves of every possible material in his laboratory. The fruits of his observations paid off in workable creations.

Looking at how things are done and observing how things work or the way machines are put together leads then to ideas of how to improve these and even entirely new creations. You first have to observe.

Whole magazines are devoted to showing what has been done in home improvements, gardens, decks or patios, landscaping and renovations. This is after all an observation process.

Mental agility can be a factor but this is not simply a trait one is born with, it takes development. You have to use the mind to have one. Reading many things and education in general are valid therapies to enhance the mind's functioning not to mention the well being these realize.

Just as one exercises to get more limber muscles one can exercise ones mind. You can exercise your mind by taking up something and just for fun see how many different ways you could configure it.

For example take the floor plan of your house. How many different variations can you think for laying out the rooms and changing the positions of doors and closets and the location of walls and rooms. Or you could walk down a street and observe businesses at random and imagine ways to improve their efficiency or changes that would be most ideal. How many ways could one toast bread, brew coffee or open a can? Regularly doing exercises like these would soon find yourself with more mental agility.

Memory can also be an area to address. The less accessable memory you have the less data you have with which to create new combinations. Imagination is taking known datums and palcing these in new combinations as well as to extrapolate previously unknown datums and new theories.

Here too you can develop this by games that test the memory and extend it. Just for fun remember all the houses you've lived in with colors of the walls or the styles of the windows. Or all the pets you've had or any like just for fun rememoring. The more you can remember the more you can visualize new combinations of objects and circumstances in the present.

There is even a book that works on recall in a self help forum. Self Analysis by L. Ron Hubbard has the techniques that you can use in your own home with amazing results in improving memory. This book puts it down to a science that has a high degree of workability in systematically enhancing memory.

I myself was one time stymied on what to with an addition to business entrance. after about a week of doing the processes from this book found I could now facilely imagine the addition rapidly a number of different ways. Thus you can see how improving memory improves imagination.

No one has a monopoly on imagination and anyone can improve their own simply by putting attention and effort to the task.

24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common

By Robert L. Gisel with text from Dr. Barrios

For your perusal I am posting the full text of the article on the genius characteristics.

As anyone can develop the same traits himself by simply knowing and conscientiously working on the 24 qualities these form a very useful frame of reference.

“Most people have the mistaken idea that geniuses are born, not made”, declared clinical psychologist Dr. Alfred Barrious, founder and director of the Self-Programmed Control Center of Los Angeles and author of the book, Towards Greater Freedom and Happiness.

“But if you look at the lives of the worlds greatest geniuses like Edison, Socrates, DaVinci, Shakespeare, Einstein, you will discover they all had 24 personality characteristics in common.

“These are traits that anyone can develop. It makes no difference how old you are, how much education you have, or what you have accomplished to date. Adopting these personality characteristics enables you to operate on a genius level.”

Here are the Characteristics Dr. Barrios lists, which enable geniuses to come up with and develop new and fruitful ideas:

"1. DRIVE. Geniuses have a strong desire to work hard and long. They’re willing to give all they’ve got to a project. Develop your drive by focusing on your future success, and keep going.

"2. COURAGE. It takes courage to do things others consider impossible. Stop worrying about what people will think if you’re different.

"3. DEVOTION TO GOALS. Geniuses know what they want and go after it. Get control of your life and schedule. Have something specific to accomplish each day.

"4. KNOWLEDGE. Geniuses continually accumulate information. Never go to sleep at night without having learned at least one new thing each day. Read. And question people who know.

"5. HONESTY. Geniuses are frank, forthright and honest. Take the responsibility for things that go wrong. Be willing to admit, ‘I goofed’ and learned from my mistakes.

"6. OPTIMISM. Geniuses never doubt they will succeed. Deliberately focus your mind on something good coming up.

"7. ABILITY TO JUDGE. Try to understand the facts of a situation before you judge. Evaluate things on an opened minded, unprejudiced basis and be willing to change your mind.

"8. ENTHUSIASM. Geniuses are so excited about what they are doing, it encourages others to cooperate with them. Really believe that things will work out well. Don’t hold back.

"9. WILLINGNESS TO TAKE CHANCES. Overcome your fear of failure. You won’t be afraid to take chances once you realize you can learn from your mistakes.

"10. DYNAMIC ENERGY. Don’t sit on your butt waiting for something good to happen. Be determined to make it happen.

"11. ENTERPRISE. Geniuses are opportunity seekers. Be willing to take on jobs others won’t touch. Never be afraid to try the unknown.

"12. PERSUASION. Geniuses know how to motivate people to help them get ahead. You’ll find it easy to be persuasive if you believe in what you’re doing.

"13. OUTGOINGNESS. I’ve found geniuses able to make friends easily and be easy on their friends. Be a ‘booster’ not somebody who puts others down. That attitude will win you many valuable friends.

"14. ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE. Geniuses are generally able to get their ideas across to others. Take every opportunity to explain your ideas to others.

"15. PATIENCE. Be patient with others most of the time, but always be impatient with your self. Expect far more of yourself than others.

"16. PERCEPTION. Geniuses have their mental radar working full time. Think more of others’ needs and wants than you do your own.

"20. ADAPTABILITY. Being flexible enables you to adapt to changing circumstances readily. Resist doing things the same old way. Be willing to consider new options.

"21. CURIOSITY. An inquisitive, curious mind will help you seek out new information. Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know it all. Always ask questions about things you don’t understand.

"22. INDIVIDUALISM. Do things the way you think they should be done, without fearing somebody’s disapproval.

"23. IDEALISM. Keep your feet on the ground — but have your head in the clouds. Strive to achieve great things, not just for yourself but for the better of mankind.

"24. IMAGINATION. Geniuses know how to think in new combinations, see things from a different perspective, than anyone else. Unclutter your mental environment to develop this type of imagination. What Is A Genius Anyway?

by Robert L Gisel

The article "24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common" I had seen before so I did a search to find it again. This is a very popular article republished a lot so I am not going to re-post it yet again just yet. Since I can really relate to it and these qualities though I highly recommend the article you can see in full here.

What fascinated me the most is responses to it particularly from a number of individuals of the Mensa group. One lady said these couldn't be the common traits as she was a Mensa and only had about 16 of the traits. Another gal said she was a Mensa but didn't really think of herself as a genius just as one with exceptional memory. One guy said he was a Mensa and he just gave a heavy sigh. Others have said that there are geniuses who decidedly do not manifest these traits.

The name Bobby Fisher came up as one not exhibiting the 24 qualities, such as outgoing, saying he was rather reclusive. This was not an issue in his earlier life going to competitions and exhibitions but certainly when his competition chess was held up as the symbolic win or lose of the Cold War with Russia he became quirky to say the least. You probably would too if your every move was intensively scrutinized and monitored by banks of the press as well as the diplomatic front men for several nations.

That is not about genius though. That is about suppression. The goal of Suppressive Persons is that others will have less reach out.

Mensa is a group that requires an IQ in the top 2% and then one is said to be a genius. This would a score of 130 or 132 depending on which test you take at least per the children's page. Personally I have no particular impulse to become a Mensa, never knew what was required. Now I see I have tested regularly well above the minimum for the past 3 decades so I can talk from the position of experience.

Perhaps we are talking about 2 different things here, Geniuses and Geniuses Manifest. Having a genius IQ is one thing. Using it to push inspiration into real life manifestations is quite another thing.

IQ is the ability to distinguish between things and interrelate things, to see likenesses or dissimilarities. It means that one could invent the light bulb but it is no guarantee that one will, left alone, carry through and get it made. The Rain Man from the movie of that title would no doubt test out very high on an IQ test but we won't see a string of inventions coming out of him into households.

Edison, inventor of the incandescent light bulb, said it the best, "Genius is one percent inspiration and 99% perspiration." You would be hard pressed to find a place in the world today where you wouldn't find a light bulb. Edison could easily be put into "24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common" and stand up to the test.

Benjamin Franklin would also make the grade. His industry and inspiration provided a number of well known inventions as well as resulting in his becoming one of the most internationally renown Americans and as a Founding Father of the new nation. That he later sometimes demonstrated lessor attributes such as vanity and lust on occasion only shows that he was humanoid and does not demean his greatness as a genius.

Scholastic achievement itself does not make a genius. Henry Ford had only a third grade formal education, but look what he produced in the Ford Motor Company. This became an issue when he felt he had been slandered by someone calling him stupid and Ford sued him for this. The Judge in trying to understand this pointed out that automotive engineering was a highly technical subject, so how could he handle this without an education. Ford pointed out that he had a row of 10 buttons on his desk, each one for a person of expertise. Whenever he needed any one of those areas of knowledge he just pushed a button and the expert came running.

Ford certainly did know how to put people and things together into very workable combinations and dynamically engineer his dreams.

In the neighborhood where I am staying currently the street names are those of the well known inventors: Watt, Edison, Howe, Bell, Marconi, Fulton, Whitney and Morse. Those men brought us in the main the steam engine, filament light bulb, sewing machine, telephone, submarine, cotton gin and the telegraph, just to mention only the one most well known of their inventions. One could place these men into the genius category as well examples of the 24 genius qualities.

These pioneers in development are well known by their accomplishment, or as Edison said, their 98% perspiration. It could thus could be said it isn't enough to simply be smart. One has to to do.

Using "24 Qualities That Geniuses Have In Common" as stimulating factors to focus on anyone can increase their own genius. There are some tools and techniques beyond that that can be utilized to develop and expand each of those characteristics, but therein are the subjects of my upcoming posts on this blog.
